Die Grapevines! Die!
Any of you that have been to our house know the condition of our backyard—a mess. The woman we bought the house from wasn't really into upkeep. In fact, we have learned form the neighbors that she didn't even mow the lawn! So we have been trying to "take back the yard". One of our major problems have been grapevines and pricker bushes. We cut them back one year, and planned to cover the ground with black tarps in the summer to "fry" the roots. (we have well water and don't want to use chemicals for fear that it will contaminate our water.) Well, the tarps never got put down and grapevines are back in full force. New Plan: to cut the grapevines down to the ground and spray brush killer directly on the fresh cuts so it goes right to the root and not into the ground soil. I started cutting this week, but didn't get very far because my 61/2 month prego belly kept getting in the way. But Mike is home from Vegas, and really showed those vines this weekend. There are several piles of cut vines in the yard that we are going to BURN, BABY BURN! as soon as it is dry.
