There is a huge adjustment period when baby # 2 comes home. Balancing your children's needs and schedules is a challenge, and it doesn't help that you are completely sleep deprived in the process of figuring out how your new family works. Then you get into a rhythm. I hit mine when Gavin was about 3-4 months. Then at around 6-7 months, Gavin started to sleep through the night on a regular basis, which meant I started to get more sleep too. Hallelujah!
Now we have entered the next phase. Gavin is VERY mobile. He zips around on his hands and knees and pulls himself up to the standing position. Now I have two busy bodies to keep track of. Gavin is a human vacuum cleaner. Anything on the floor goes right into his mouth. So I am constantly after Luke picking up crayons and small toys that Gavin could choke on. Luckily, since the boys are close in age, there aren't too many small toys. Gavin has also figured out how to climb up the stairs. (the boys toy room and living room are "sunken" off the main house, so their are 2 steps to get down to these rooms) I have a gate across the top of the stairs which keeps him from falling down when he is in the kitchen, but not from going up! It was much easier to keep track of Luke when he was going through this phase, but now Luke can easily distract me from Gavin. And the joy continues.

For me the key to this phase (and the ones that follow) was to find ways to contain (stroller, highchair, gates, etc.) the little one and set new rules for when and where "big kid only" toys can be played with (playdoh only in the kitchen, my little ponies in her room, scissors during his nap, etc).
Cameron does spend more time contained in strollers/gates than Daniela ever did, but I wasn't managing 2 kids then. I don't have eyes in the back of my head, octopus arms, or the ability to be in two places at the same time!
The good news is - they do get past the vacuum cleaner phase! Good luck :)
oooo good tips! Thanks
