And Strangers.
Yesterday, I took Luke and Gavin to get their haircut. As you know, this is NOT a fun trip to say the least. This will be Gavin's third trip to get his hair cut. The first 2 times, went pretty well. Not too much crying, only at the end when they whip out the clippers to go around ears and stuff.
This trip was the worst yet. I wasn't planning to go to the barber shop, but Luke insisted that we go because he HAD to get his hair cut. And their hair was getting long, so it did need to get cut. I figured, "Well, he is asking to go, maybe this will be a good trip." Well I need my head examined for even thinking that.
We get there and there are a few people ahead of us. Luke is content to play with the MANY toys they have there. Gavin, on the other hand, only want to bang on the 52 inch TV. Super. "Please don't break this, I can't afford to replace it!" Finally it is our turn. I take Gavin first. He screams. Barber does a VERY good job. Thy have 2 guys there cutting hair. The other guy was free and tried to get Luke into the chair. Luke starts screaming. I say, "don't worry, take the next person and I will get him." Gavin is done, I pop him into the stroller. He is happy—until I get Luke over to the chair. Luke is screaming and struggling to get free. I have to sit in the chair with him in my lap.
Now Gavin starts to scream. Other barber gets Gavin and rolls shim over so he can see me. Doesn't help, he continues to scream. Gavin continues to scream and tries to climb out of the stroller. Enter friendly stranger, a nice older woman, probably in her 60's. She asks me if she can hold Gavin. YES PLEASE!! This doesn't keep him from crying, but at least I knew he wasn't going to get hurt trying to free himself from the stroller.
Barber was a real sport about all this. I say that I'm totally getting a drink after this. He says, "Me too, lets go together. Leave the kids here."
So the kids both got good haircuts, and we won't have to go for awhile. I think I'll send Mike with them next time.
