A Mother's Voice

When I first became a mother, there was a flood of emotions. Some I expected, like the instant love you feel for your child the moment they are born. Some I didn't expect—feeling completely overwhelmed for the responsibility of this child. All I knew was that I loved him more than anything in the whole world and it was my job to love, care for, protect and speak for this precious Gift which had been entrusted to Me. And I would walk through fire to do it.

But does a mother's voice stop with her own children? There are woman and children all over this world screaming to be heard and there are few listening. I encourage you to listen to their stories and be their voice. In Half the Sky, authors Nicholas D. Kristof and his wife Sheryl WuDunn expose a horrific truth about life for women and girls around the globe. Half the Sky lays out an agenda for the world's women and three major abuses: sex trafficking and forced prostitution; gender-based violence including honor killings and mass rape; maternal mortality, which needlessly claims one woman a minute.

Wondering how you can help? Oprah has made it easy for anyone to get involved and many ways to do it. Please visit her site HERE to find out how you can be a voice for millions of women and girls around the world.

Maybe start by spreading the word.
